Professor Ray is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Professor Otavio Sousa and Professor Scott Carr. Raised in Idaho after being born in Southern California, he began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1999.

In 2008, Ray returned to Southern California to immerse himself in full-time training and begin his work as an instructor. He went on to compete internationally, teach students of every age and experience level, and help develop instructors at Gracie Barra Headquarters in Irvine.

Along the way, he learned from many of the sport’s most respected leaders, including Master Carlos Gracie Jr., Marcio Feitosa, Flavio Almeida, Vinicius “Draculino” Magalhaes, Braulio Estima, Otavio Sousa, and Scott Carr.

Today, his focus is creating a welcoming academy where every student has a clear path to grow in skill, confidence, discipline, and character—and a community that feels like home.
